Goodbye, CrandleCakes!

rtdbrowning-pbcookies-02

Remember Bye Bye Birdie? I’m singing that song in my head right now.

“We love you CrandleCakes, oh yes we do-o, we love you Crandlecakes, and we’ll be tru-ue.”

It’s true, CrandleCakes is coming to a close. I’ll leave the recipes up for a while at least, but I will now be posting at my brand new blog, Week of Plenty. (Squee!!!)

CrandleCakes started as a place for me to talk about food, even though I had decided to leave the professional cooking world. But as I blogged and cooked and ate and changed, I realized that I have a whole new focus. I used to just love food. Now I know that I especially love plant-based (I mean “vegan,” basically, but less strict) recipes using mostly whole foods, and I want a place to start fresh and be totally passionate. Plus, I’ll admit it, I want to turn my blog into a business, and to do that, I need to really focus on just one specialty.

What can I say? Kale will never go out of style in my books, and plant-based eating doesn’t hamper my cookie intake. #winning

On Week of Plenty I’ve already started sharing plant-based, whole food recipes and talking about my journey to get to Pantry Level Zero. If that means nothing to you, go check out Week of Plenty! It all started when I got home from the grocery store several weeks ago and realized 3 things:

  1. I don’t want to make cake anymore.
  2. I am committed to cooking plant-based foods now.
  3. All of the excess in my kitchen (and life) was majorly bumming me out.

I had everything in my kitchen. I used CrandleCakes as an excuse to let things get really out of hand. Don’t believe me? Guess how many bags of flour I found in there? I told the story on Week of Plenty.

I’m trying to use up everything in my pantry BEFORE buying anything new, so I can simplify the way I cook and eat. And the other part of the goal is to create plant-based, healthy recipes that are simple to make and easy to incorporate into your life.

In the coming months, I want to start selling weekly meal plans for plant-based eating: 10 recipes, 10 ingredients or less, 1 week of simple, healthy meals.

Here’s a taste of the types of recipes I’m already posting over there:

Peanut Butter Cookies with Chocolate Chips

Blueberry Pie Breakfast Smoothie

Kale & Ginger Fried Rice Bowl

And if you want the full story about why I’m going minimalist, it’s right here: Why I’m UN-stocking My Pantry

And of course, a HUGE ENORMOUS THANK YOU to all of the CrandleCakes:

  1. Readers, who let me know I wasn’t writing (and cooking) into a void;
  2. Commenters, who indulged me in chatting about food;
  3. Friends, who told me not to give up and “Liked” everything;
  4. My friend Sally, who made BEAUTIFUL designs for the new CrandleCakes, and then I canceled CrandleCakes. :/

In the CrandleCakes lifetime, these were your top ten favorite posts ever:

Chocolate Chip Banana Bread with Coconut Oil

Lavender-Lemon Pound Cake

Pear Sauce Spice Cake

Zucchini-Banana Bread with Walnuts {vegan}

Pimm’s Cup Slushies

Malted Chocolate Pudding Parfaits with Pretzel Crunch

Old-Fashioned Carrot Cake

Pumpkin Spice Bundt Cake {vegan}

Asian-Style Fried Quinoa

Perfect Roast Chicken

I hope to see you all over at Week of Plenty. I might not be all about epic cakes anymore, but I’m already on a chocolate-peanut butter roll I think you might be interested in. 🙂

  1. Congratulations on making this decision! I’m sure it wasn’t one you came to easily but I hope it’ll mean great things for your future. I’ll be following you to Week of Plenty 🙂

    1. Amina, Thank you so much for your kind words! I went back and forth for so long, but I’m SO excited about the future at Week of Plenty. And thank you so much for coming along! 🙂

  2. Ooooh, heading over to the new site now, Randle! This sounds like a lot of fun, no matter how much meat, eggs, and stinky cheese I gobble in a week… 😉 (well it isn’t actually THAT much). Best wishes for the New Year and the New Blog!

    1. Darya, thanks for your kind words! And meat and cheese eaters are welcome at Week of Plenty! That’s why I’m calling it “plant based” rather than vegan. I think it sounds less intense. Besides, I’m not sure I could resist cheese if I lived in France. Happy New Year to you as well! And THANK YOU for all your comments on CrandleCakes. 🙂 See you at Week of Plenty!

  3. Best of luck in your new adventure! Sounds awesome… see ya over there. 😉

    1. Thank you!! See you at Week of Plenty. 😀

  4. Hi Randle,
    just read you post – I can fully relate to that! Good step that you’ve taken! I’m also with wordpress.com, but have been thinking about changing to .org for a while… Also read your skillcrush blog post on that topic. Thank you!
    Would love to get more food content & blogger exchange with you! Kathrin
